Zartbitter Bittersüß

What stories are hidden in a piece of chocolate or a T-shirt? How are the children doing who make our favorite things?

It is the year 2225. Human-caused global warming has changed the conditions of life. Some regions of the Earth are now uninhabitable. In Central Europe, it is now possible to grow cotton and even cocoa. And Europe has to provide for itself. The countries on the African continent and in South America now live and work in harmony with the rights of nature and human rights, producing only for their local populations. Meanwhile, the aging societies in Europe are running out of workers. Those who do not belong to the richest 10% must also send their own children to work.

The children and young people of the young artists from steptext combine dance and parkour in a gripping dance theater production that shows how children’s rights and the rights of Mother Earth are inseparably linked. In 2025, the focus is on cocoa and cotton production, still connected to the ongoing issue of child labor.

Inspired by the indigenous cultures of South America and the groundbreaking constitutions of Bolivia and Ecuador, which grant nature its own rights, the young artists have for several years been exploring not only human rights but also the rights of the Earth.
