About us
The dance productions and activities of steptext dance project e. V. (steptext) attempt to root the art of dance in a multinational context and initiate and mediate aesthetic and transcultural dialogues. Based in the Schwankhalle Bremen, steptext produces and presents contemporary dance on an international level.
Since its foundation in 1996, the artistic director and choreographer Helge Letonja established steptext as a popular festival organizer and co-producer. Steptext creates and develops dance pieces, guest performances and initiates festivals, as well as transdisciplinary projects with artists and institutional partners from all over the world. Dance professionals and young dance theater enthusiasts, dance artists with and without disabilities, internationally renowned ensembles and young choreographic talents - people and ideas stimulate each other.
Besides furthering intercultural dialogue, we are focusing our artistic spirit on bringing dance close to a broader audience, crossing the threshold into other spaces and contexts and embedding performances in different kinds of discourse.
